What is browser cache and how to clear it?

Browser Cache

When you visit a website, the browser will keep some of that websites files. For ex: logo. When you visit a website first time, on your computer/laptop/phone, the browser will download the logo image file in hard disk in a temporary folder. By doing so, every time you visit a different page of the site, the logo will not be downloaded again and again. This speed up the process of browsing the site.

Cookies

Cookies are also similar to cache. They allow the server to deliver a page tailored to a particular user. Cookies are usually small text files. They are generally used to keep track of your movements within the site you visit. Ex: remembering password, username, form fields etc.

Why to clear up browser cache and cookies?

If you visit a website frequently, web browser will always load old content that was cached rather than new files. Sometimes this leads to errors, if the web page is modified in server. When a site is updated, the files saved in the cache may conflict with what’s actually modified in the website. This leads to break images or even web page errors.

Clearing your browser’s cache might help alleviate many problems including:

  • Failing log in attempts
  • Log out problems
  • Out of date information displaying on a website

It is advisable to clear up cache frequently. This makes the browser to free its files and connect the server for fresh download.
